WIEDZMA

Hello! We are anarcho-feminist group from Poland. Our group was founded in 1996. We are co-educational group because we think that the liberation of women is the liberation of men as well. We oppose separatism which is the negation of equality while at the same time we respect women feminist culture which we are part of. In Poland feminism isn't popular idea, even on punk scene. There are still many stereotypes about man and female rolls. But since few years women and feministic culture and projects becoming more stronger. Our activities include informative street actions, awareness raising meetings whose main aim is to inform about the situation of women and the major problems they are subjected to in Poland. In October 2002 we had
organize night demonstration "to regain the night!" - against rapes and sexual violence. Now we are in process of organizing "festival of rights and culture of women" in our town - Biala Podlaska. We also edit a zine of which four issues has already been published. English-lingual version has been added to the two latest numbers. We have also published a brochure WITCHES ABOUT WITCHES - also with English version. We also create all girls band - Fuck Finger, in December 2002 we publish tape "krolowa bandytow" /
the queen of bandits/, which is dedicated to Phoolan Devi. Besides that we have small distribution. So, if you are interested our zine or tape of Fuck Finger or if you want just talk with us, write:

 psst...
(some in Slovene, most in English)
Psst... is wonderfully written, designed and distributed by Tea from Spodnja Idrija, Slovenia. Tea reports for example from the Biketour to the summer youth festival Ecotopia and covers political and personal issues, but she also is dealing with the many aspects of gender identity and ambiguity. Amazing Tea is one of the organizers of Rdece Zore RED SUNRISES III - International Women's Festival 2002! Her zines are wonderful, thoughtful pieces. I enjoy reading her zines so much, especially because she is able to transport so much in a few pages... A must, particularly for the Europeans around! And check the festivals in Slovenia! In short, I love Teas writing!

Elf's Reading Room = radical infothek
(also in English)
An anarchist reading room: "Elf’s reading room is a resource centre for people interested in radical social change. It’s a place where people can get in touch with the abundance of radical, revolutionary, anti-authoritarian and libertarian thought and practice in the form of books, comics, fanzines and magazines, video and audio materials. We also organize regular video showings, lectures, debates, presentations and other events. At Elf’s reading room people can meet and discuss, read books or take them home. It is our intention to support direct action initiatives, study groups or individuals, and movements working towards an anti-authoritarian, non-dominating, ecological society, based on mutual aid and solidarity."

StripburgerCOMICS ZINE/COLLECTIVE: "In October '92 the first number of Stripburger, fanzine covering comics, graphics and photos was published by STRIP CORE. In December 1993 followed next double issue following a concept of underground comic magazine.Stripburger is still the only Slovene comic magazine covering news in comics, theories on comics and works of Slovene and foreign comic authors (there have been 30 numbers released yet). As a part of activities of Stripburger there have been held various comic exhibitions in Slovenia and abroad. In the past years Stripburger has had a large influence on changing attitude towards comic art in Slovenia. It has become an important source for what’s going on in comic scene abroad, especially in Europe, for Slovene comic fans and for foreign followers of comic art a source for what’s happening on Slovene comic scene. Stripburger has encouraged many Slovene comic artists to continue to produce comics and work on developing their style. "

Rdece Zore
RED SUNRISES III - International Women's Festival 2002

March 7th to 9th, 2002 in Ljubljana (Slovenia)

"Rdece zore festival was launched for the first time by the cultural center Metelkova mesto in year 2000. This third time, the festival is also taking place at Metelkova mesto in Ljubljana (Slovenia), from March 7th to 9th, 2002. (...)
Festival Rdece zore annually presents autochthonous women's production of Metelkova mesto and moreover, invites women artists from abroad (mainly from ex-Yugoslavian and Eastern-European countries as we see the need to continue our long-lasting and fruitful co-operation in spite all the economic, political and cultural changes of the last decade) to recognise eachother's creative work. We tend to support women who are actively voicing their politics, opinions, feelings through any media and we especially support women who are expressing their creativity through self-organized and self-managed ways, capturing the do-it-yourself ethic of constructive rebellion against capitalist consumption of our voices.
The basic idea of the festival is to unite the strength of all women activists and artists and more, to demonstrate the possibility of a festival that is produced, organised and performed by women - for anyone interested.
The title and motto Rdece zore is taken from a children's story about a rebellish partisan girl, called Rdeca Zora for her beautiful red hair. We find our contributing artists' and activists' work subversively beautiful in their daring and genuine questioning of supposed natural and social determinants of women's femininity and supposed men's masculinity as well as their dealing with 'classic' feminist issue of women's rights.
However, the title Rdece Zore carries a double meaning: in Slovenian language it also means 'red sunrises' which can be as well understood as a hope for changing women's situation and changing the world!"

 Bread&Roses
(Zagreb)
A Croatian feminist journal which features articles and essays on feminism. "Since 1994 Ženska infoteka publishes the magazine Kruh i ruže (Bread & Roses) in order to bring knowledge, experiences, new theoretical prospectives to the thousands of women who we do not know and have never seen, yet this being the most efficient way to reach as many people as we can - we consider this an extremely exciting aspect of our work. With our magazine we try to develop awareness of existing gender inequality and help to women researchers, activist and people in general in giving them arguments and space for creative and/or political work. By conducting and presenting reasearches and translating many articles we are transfering important knowledge on women issues to our readers. In the magazine we covered many topics such as women and language, feminism and democracy, electronic comunication and new technologies, women and art, women's human rights - "Dossier Beijing", lesbianism, women and politics, women and psychoanalysis and some others. We also initiated some researches conducted by experts and students and published the results in the magazine. The magazine is also an independent forum for discussion, exchange and distribution of relevant information concerning women throughout Eastern European countries in transition. Each article has an extensive summary in English language.
You can subscribe to the first Croatian feminist quarterly Bread & Roses (33 USD for 4 issues) by sending us an e-mail (zinfo [@] zamir.net) including your name and address; we will then send you an invoice." (Zagreb)

"The two sisters Qiriazi, were the founders of the first school for girls in Albania over 100 years ago. Our group has chosen their name in recognition of their work and because the goal they dedicated themselves to - the education of women and girls - is still important today. (...) Our core strategy is to create and maintain weekly meetings in villages. These provide a forum where women and girls gather to exchange ideas and where they can begin to examine the parameters of their lives. (...) The meetings contain self esteem building elements and educational components, through them women and girls together develop sub-projects to benefit the whole community."
