Projet Mobilivre - Bookmobile Project

At the Underground Publishing Conference at Bowling Green, Ohio

June 21-23, 2002

Projet MOBILVRE-BOOKMOBILE project (Info from their web site)

Making its debut tour in 2001 and enjoying great success, the BOOKMOBILE is an annual touring exhibition of artist books, zines and independent publications. The project travels across the United States and Canada drawing audiences in public spaces of various urban and rural communities. In June 2002, a new collection of 300 book works will hit the road in a converted vintage Airstream trailer and visit community centers, schools, festivals, artist-run centers, libraries, and bookstores all over North America.

Visitors to the BOOKMOBILE witness an outstanding collection of book works by a diverse range of artists and writers, in all stages of their careers. With it’s focus on dissemination, the BOOKMOBILE creates an exhibitionary site, experience of space, and intimate physical interaction with art objects that is rarely part of conventional art viewing. The BOOKMOBILE project explores the possibility of crossing boundaries between art, literature, academics and activism within the context of community building.

COLLECTIVE:

Projet MOBILIVRE-BOOKMOBILE project is a grassroots media initiative which is run by the BOOKMOBILE COLLECTIVE; a dedicated group of volunteers with headquarters based in Montreal, Canada and Philadelphia, USA. Members of the COLLECTIVE work together, rotating responsibilities throughout the year, to plan the tour. The annual tour is headed by three Tour Guides at a time who travel with the exhibition and give workshops.
